International Non Ridden Equine Day is on May 4th. It is a day to celebrate all the rich diversity of non ridden activities. It is not anti-riding, as everything non ridden is of benefit to all equines and people. The day is all about the promotion of everything non ridden because the equine world is mostly geared towards riding.
Facts: Non ridden equines are the most disadvantaged. They are the most at risk of negelect, substandard care, abuse and abandoment. We have a welfare crisis and non ridden equines are the hardest to re-home. Non ridden should not mean worthless, they are not. Non ridden equines have many gifts and bring people many delightful benefits. People who own non ridden equines or a riding horse which they choose not to ride often face challenges and pressures often feel isolated and judged.
